Update: Police Questioning Nanny Of Nigerian Music Star Davido Following Death Of His Three-Year-Old Son

Update: (Nov. 1, 2022):  New details have surfaced surrounding the death of Davido’s 3-year-old son.

According to reports, Nigerian police arrested eight domestic staff of Davido following the drowning of his young son, Ifeanyi Adeleke.

Reportedly, the child’s nanny was one of the eight people taken into police custody. However, authorities have released 6 of the detained, and only 2 — including the nanny — remain in their custody. Benjamin Hundeyin, a spokesman for Lagos Police, said:

“Eight members of his domestic staff were taken in for questioning, but a nanny and one other person are still being questioned. After our interrogation, six people were allowed to go because they don’t have any direct bearing with the incident.”

It has been confirmed by Nigerian police that the Afrobeats star’s son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, lost his life after he drowned in a swimming pool on Monday (Oct. 31) at his parent’s home in the city of Lagos. Davido, born David Adedeji Adeleke, shared the young child with his fiancée, chef/influencer Chioma Rowland. The couple dated for years before getting engaged in 2019.

Reportedly, Nigerian police are questioning eight domestic workers as they conduct their investigation into Ifeanyi’s death. Benjamin Hundeyin, a police spokesman, said law enforcement was contacted by the couple’s domestic staff on Halloween at 5 PM EST. Hudeyin continued:

“We are reviewing the CCTV cameras to get additional information about the circumstances of his death.” 

Hundeyin added:

“His body has been deposited in the morgue. We are in touch with his parents. In fact they were with us last night.”

The singer, who has won BET & MTV awards, has two other children with other women from previous relationships.
