Fat Joe Recalls Advice Lil Wayne Gave Him Before Going To Jail: If You’ll Be Humble They’ll Respect You
Fat Joe recently recalled a conversation with his good friend Lil Wayne before he went to jail.
In an upcoming episode with Fat Joe on “Red Table Talk,” the rapper opened up about his experience visiting the “Mr. Carter” rapper in jail in 2010. The New York native also shared the time when his collaborator, rap star Lil Wayne, 40, gave him some advice before he served time behind bars.

Show host Jada Pinkett Smith said to the “What’s Luv” rapper,
“I heard Lil Wayne gave you some advice before you went to jail.”
Fat Joe, born Joseph Cartagena responded,
“One of the saddest things I ever did was go visit Lil Wayne in jail. Not only that, but they had him chained up. Lil Wayne. They had him in shackles and all that. They had him like he was the killer.”

He continued,
“So. I went to go see him. He’s my brother, man. He lives across the street from me in Miami — and so I’m walking into the jail, and I get a phone call. It’s Lil Wayne.”
Fat Joe, 52, then revealed the advice Lil Wayne gave him before walking into the building to serve time — which he described as “rusty and ugly, like one of those Harry Potter movies.” Fat Joe shared,
“I was like, ‘Yo Wayne, what’s up?’ And he was like ‘I’m just telling you right now, be humble.’ And I said, ‘Well how do you do it?’ and he said, ‘Just be humble bro.’”
He added,
“If you’ll be humble they’ll respect you.”
According to reports, Fat Joe was sentenced to four months in federal prison in 2013 for failure to file income tax returns of $3.3 million in earnings and paid a $15,000 fine.
