TV Host Tiffany Cross – Black Leaders Send Letter To Protest MSNBC Dropping Her Show

A group of more than 40 black leaders across politics and media reportedly slammed MSNBC over its decision to abruptly cut ties with controversial weekend anchor Tiffany Cross and cancel her show, ‘The Cross Connection.’

According to the Huffington Post, the leaders included members of civil rights groups and nonprofit organizations, including NAACP president Derrick Johnson, Color of Change president Rashad Robinson and ex-ESPN personality Jemele Hill. They have requested a meeting with MSNBC president Rashida Jones to address the situation surrounding Tiffany Cross.

The leader’s wrote:

“We are deeply disappointed in the abrupt cancellation of the Cross Connection and the unexpected ouster of its host, just four days before a critical midterm election…Given the undeniable rise of fascism and persistent threats to democracy we face in the current moment, NBC should be an unrelenting force for truth and a safe harbor for voices like Ms. Cross as well as those with whom she shared her broad and popular platform.”

They continued,

“While other networks give voice to election deniers, Ms. Cross featured voting rights champions. Where other shows spread disinformation, The Cross Connection spotlighted justice. Where other outlets catered to the country’s worst instincts, Ms. Cross elevated the discourse and taught audiences how to protect democracy.”

In the letter, the officials also criticized MSNBC for deciding not to renew Cross’ contract just a few weeks after Fox News’ Tucker Carlson slammed her comments on race. During the segment, Carlson accused Cross of “genocidal talk.” The Fox News host aired a montage of clips from “The Cross Connection” on his program, claiming that Cross was attempting to incite a “race war” and drew parallels between her program and a media outlet that fomented the 1994 Rwandan genocide.

In regards to Tucker Carlson, the leaders wrote:

“His intentional misrepresentation of her platform amounted to no less than a direct attack, and should have engendered immediate defense and support of Ms. Cross by her parent network…Instead, it appears that NBCUniversal has allowed Fox News to dictate its hiring and unwarranted firing decisions. We cannot afford to be bullied by those who willingly and wantonly drag this country backwards.”

As previously reported, MSNBC weekend host Tiffany Cross was suddenly let go by the network last Friday (Nov.4). The network decided not to renew the show after two years and decided to cut ties with Cross immediately.

A rotation of guest hosts will fill Cross’s weekend time slots until a permanent replacement is found. The production team will remain at the network. A source confirmed that there were concerns at the network that Cross’s commentary, on the show and elsewhere, did not meet the network’s editorial standards.
