Balenciaga Apologizes For ‘Displaying Unsettling Documents’ In BDSM Campaign Featuring Minors + Files $25 Million Lawsuit Against Production Company Behind Ad: We Take This Matter Very Seriously & Are Taking Legal Action Against The Parties Responsible For Creating The Set
Balenciaga is apologizing for its recent campaign advertisement in which the brand appeared to promote child pornography.
In the ad, the French fashion house showcased young children holding teddy bears wearing BDSM outfits. A document of the 2008 U.S. Supreme Court decision that maintained federal laws against child pornography was also placed in the campaign.
The brand — which, ironically enough, recently severed ties with Kanye West because of his controversial actions and comments — has since condemned such actions. In a statement released today (Nov. 28), Balenciaga claimed that graphics posted under its name were not authorized by the corporation. According to reports, Balenciaga has filed a $25 million lawsuit against the production company reportedly behind the concerning images.
Balenciaga said,
“We apologize for displaying unsettling documents in our campaign. We take this matter very seriously and are taking legal action against the parties responsible for creating the set and including unapproved items for our Spring 23 campaign photoshoot.”
