Pop Smoke Tribute Mural Defaced In Brooklyn

Vandals have, once again, targeted Pop Smoke.

Spray paint was used to deface a mural honoring the “Welcome To The Party” rapper (real name Bashar Barakah Jackson) in Brooklyn, New York. Photos of the damaged mural surfaced online on Wednesday (Dec. 28).

Woo K, which is seemingly short for “Woo Killer,” looked to be written in spray paint. Thankfully, it appears the vandals chose to deface the parts of the picture next to Pop Smoke’s portrait and didn’t cover the late rapper’s face.

The individual who shared the disappointing image on their Instagram Stories criticized the taggers, writing,

“Word to my dead yall n***as are mad childish like wtf.”

Hattas Public Murals created the Brooklyn artwork five months after Pop Smoke was shot to death in February 2020. In an IG post previously shared online, the company said,

“Our hearts go out to the family, friends and fans of the late and beloved Pop Smoke. Much love to you all. And thank you to the community of #Canarsie for your overwhelming support as we painted this memorial mural. We are humbled and honored.”

Unfortunately, vandals have previously defaced Pop Smoke tributes. In an attempt to steal Pop Smoke‘s casket, thieves broke into the late rapper’s tomb last September.

The rapper’s mother Audrey Jackson posted a picture of the destroyed coffin with the caption,

“This was unnecessary, whoever you are. Whoever you are, you have my attention. Now what!?”

As previously reported, Pop Smoke was killed inside a Hollywood Hills home he was renting in Feb. 2020. According to reports, two men wearing hoodies and masks broke into a house firing multiple shots.

Since then, four men—including the suspected killer, who was only 15 at the time—have been charged with the rapper’s murder and face the death penalty. Police said Pop Smoke‘s diamond-encrusted Rolex and Cuban link chain were supposed to be stolen but they only managed to take his watch, which they later sold for $2,000 instead.

Pop Smoke‘s murder was the subject of a Hip Hop Homicides episode in November, which featured a witness who described the rapper’s dying moments.

Corey Walker, 21, one of the suspects, allegedly told a cellmate that the crew only learned of Pop Smoke‘s whereabouts from his social media. The rapper uploaded an Instagram Story of designer bags with his Airbnb’s location printed on the packaging before the shooting.
