Whoopi Goldberg Debated Leaving Her $8M Per Year Gig w/ ‘The View’ Following Suspension Over Holocaust Remarks, Insiders Share

Whoopi Goldberg was seemingly ready to call it quits with “The View” last year!

According to RadarOnline, actress Whoopi Goldberg contemplated walking away from her seat on “The View’s” panel after ABC suspended her without pay over her controversial Holocaust comments. The suspension reportedly caused her a lot of stress, in addition to a $192,000 financial loss.

As previously reported, in Feb of 2022, Whoopi Goldberg gave her take on race and the Holocaust, claiming,

“Holocaust isn’t about race. It’s not about race…It’s about man’s inhumanity to man.”

Although the EGOT winner, who apologized for her comments, considered leaving the show, she signed a four-year contract in September 2021, worth almost eight million dollars. Reportedly, she wasn’t willing to leave without her money! An insider shared,

“Even with her giant-size ego, she can’t hold off her enemies forever.”

The source added,

“She wants a hefty payoff to leave or else she’ll stay and make everyone miserable.”

After admitting that the 66-year-old’s bosses were “considering it,” the source explained:

“Whoopi has three years left on her contract but after her embarrassing blunders the feeling is it might be prudent to replace her.”

At the beginning of her suspension, an insider said:

“Whoopi’s attitude is they can put her out to pasture, but they’re going to have to cough up some serious cash.”

Last month, Goldberg issued a second apology for making additional comments about the Holocaust. According to reports, she said:

“It was never my intention to appear as if I was doubling down on hurtful comments, especially after talking with and hearing people like rabbis and old and new friends weighing in. I’m still learning a lot and believe me, I heard everything everyone said to me,” she said. “I believe that the Holocaust was about race, and I am still as sorry now as I was then that I upset, hurt and angered people. My sincere apologies again, especially to everyone who thought this was a fresh rehash of the subject.”
