Tyler Perry Donates $750K To Atlanta Seniors Residing By His Film Studio So They Don’t Have To Relocate
Tyler Perry is giving back during Black History Month!
The filmmaker’s movie studio in Atlanta is causing a problem that he’s willing to fix. Reportedly, Tyler Perry is financially assisting seniors that are noticing an increase in their property taxes. Sources claim the actor is donating $750,000 this year so the state’s low-income seniors aren’t forced to leave their homes because they can’t afford them.
Due to the population in the community around Tyler Perry Studios increasing, the value of land is going up as well as the property taxes. Apparently, it’s a leading factor in long-term residents who survive on a fixed income having their lives turned upside down as they’re forced to potentially find a new place to live.
Reportedly, sources close to Tyler Perry stated that he contacted Atlanta mayor Andre Dickens to assist the residents in keeping their homes. The 53-year-old’s $750,000 donation will help with many things, including paying off all back property taxes for nearly 300 residents.
In addition, sources claim the grand gesture will effectively freeze property taxes for up to 100 low-income seniors for 20 years, with the money going to pay the difference between current property taxes and property tax increases over the next two decades.
Perry also plans to donate about $500k every year for the next four years. According to reports, the funds will be handled by Invest Atlanta Partnership, the nonprofit wing of Atlanta’s economic development authority.
As previously reported, Perry hit No. 3 on the Forbes list of the Top 10 highest-paid entertainers of 2022, making him the only billionaire on the list. Forbes wrote:
“Just call multi-hyphenate Perry a modern Renaissance man. The actor-director-writer-studio mogul had another lucrative year thanks to simultaneous income streams from film, his BET TV shows and the sprawling production backlot he outright owns in Atlanta. In his second year among Forbes’ top 10 highest-paid entertainers, Perry is the list’s sole billionaire with an estimated $1 billion fortune.”
The media mogul’s accolades reportedly include a whopping $150 million per year plus a 25% equity in his deal with Viacom, which owns the BET network. “Sistas” and “Zatima,” written and directed by the entertainer, have steadily continued to gain popularity. Additionally, Perry signed a deal with Amazon Studios to produce four motion picture films.
