T-Pain Shares In Resurfaced Clip How He Prevented An Elderly Man From Committing Suicide Shortly After Recording ‘Bartender’
T-Pain (real name Faheem Rashad Najm) is changing lives with more than just his music!
During an appearance on Steve-O’s Wild Ride! podcast in August 2021, the “Buy U A Drank” artist shared how he stopped a 70-something-year-old man from taking his own life after learning his wife died hours earlier while at a Jamaican resort. The artist — also known as Teddy Pendergrass — said he had just finished using whatever equipment he could find to record “Bartender” at the resort.

During the clip, which recently resurfaced on TikTok, T-Pain said,
“I offered him a drink. I was like, ‘Man, let’s have some fun. Not trolling or f*cking with people. His name was Bob. F*cked around with Bob and he was like, ‘That police tape back there is because my wife just died in the hotel.’ He said, ‘I was at the bar taking my last drink.’ He was gonna kill himself.”
He continued,
“He was like, ‘The way you came up here and showed me love and just had fun with me, you and your friend.’ And I still talk to him to this day … He was just looking down, I was like, ‘Dude, what are you doing? Get up!’”
It was the start of a budding friendship, as the two men still keep in touch to this day. T-Pain added,
“I been talking to him ever since. The song ‘Bartender’ was made during that and all that sh*t happened after. Bob, I love you brother.”

The Florida native previously shared that he loves speaking about mental health because artists before him neglected to do so. In fact, the artist has dealt with his own depression struggles.
During a conversation with Trevor Noah in November 2022, Pain shared,
“I love being vocal about things like that because it wasn’t set in the blueprint before me….it’s all about blinging, it’s all about having a bunch of money having all this and nobody tells you about the down….I always look back at the people that came before me and I’m like….’why didn’t y’all tell me about this?'”
He added,
“According to them its money, girls, big house – somehow yo wife don’t find out about any of that….but nobody told us about the downs. So I try to stay vocal about that to let people know these things are going to happen…no matter what you do….you’re still going to have these downs because there’s no magical world in the multiverse where everybody is happy all the time.”
According to Pain, it was a comment made by R&B singer Usher that sparked his four-year-long depression battle. The “Confessions” singer allegedly told him he kind of “f*cked up music” by popularizing auto-tune.

Regardless, Pain — who inspired auto-tune use by some of the biggest names in the industry including Travis Scott and Future — still has a lot of love for Usher.
