Joe Mixon’s Sister & Her Boyfriend Face Prison Time Following Alleged Shooting Of A Minor At The NFL Star’s Home

Looks like we’re finally getting details about why police were called to Joe Mixon’s home earlier this month.

Lamonte Brewer, the boyfriend of Joe Mixon‘s sister, Shalonda Mixon, allegedly shot at a 16-year-old 10 to 11 times outside of the Bengals star’s Ohio home on March 6, striking the boy once in the foot. According to reports, the incident might have started over the Nerf gun the teenager was playing with.

During a press conference on Thursday (March 16), Hamilton County prosecutor Melissa Powers said Brewer and Joe Mixon were seen in the athlete’s backyard as teenagers played the game “Nerf wars.” She claimed that surveillance video acquired through a search warrant showed Brewer opening fire on the teen, almost hitting the boy in the head.

Powers said,

“It’s a miracle [the teen] was not killed.”

According to video evidence, Mixon was in the yard at the time of the shooting and had a gun on him, but he never drew it. Prosecutors said he is not facing any charges, adding that “as a legal gun owner, [Joe] Mixon had the right to possess the firearm and did not commit a crime.”

Mixon has allegedly been fearing for his safety following death threats received via social media.

Powers also said during the press conference that the video footage appeared to show Shalonda gathering shell casings in the yard before she departed in a vehicle with Brewer. Police eventually pulled over the car and discovered the Zastava M92 gun from the shooting inside the trunk.

The prosecutor said Brewer is facing four criminal charges, including felony assault.

In addition to the four charges they’ve brought against Brewer, prosecutors also submitted two counts of obstructing justice and tampering with evidence against Shalonda. Brewer could spend up to 20 years in prison while Shalonda faces up to four.

Powers said,

“It’s unbelievable that something like this could happen. It’s hard to fathom how anyone could aim a gun at a child, let alone fire 10 to 11 rounds at him.”

Following the press conference, Mixon‘s agent, Peter Schaffer, issued a statement claiming the Cincinnati tailback saw what he believed to be a person racing directly towards his property barking instructions and carrying what appeared to be a rifle.

Schaffer noted,

“When another individual discharged a firearm, Joe interceded to stop the person discharging a firearm. Joe hates that a young adult was injured during this incident.”
