Pete Davidson Is ‘Not Sorry’ For Leaving Voicemail Blasting PETA After The Organization Criticized Him For Buying New Dog Instead Of Adopting
Pete Davidson is standing firm on his choice of words against PETA after the animal rights group criticized him for buying a puppy at an NYC pet store instead of adopting from a shelter.
On Monday (June 5), Pete Davidson left an angry voicemail for PETA’s Senior VP of Cruelty Investigations, Daphna Nachminovitch. The 29-year-old actor/comedian blasted her after she shared a statement criticizing his “tragic” choice to purchase a puppy for his family.

As a response to Nachminovitch’s statement, Pete Davidson defended his purchase in a now-viral explicit (leaked) voicemail. In the voice message, he shared that he’s “severely” allergic to dogs and his mother’s dog recently passed away, which prompted him to get her a new one of a specific breed. In part, the “Bupkis” actor said,
“I’m only not allergic to cavapoos and those type of dogs. And my mom’s f*cking dog, who was two years old, died a week prior, and we’re all so sad, so I had to get a specific dog. So, why don’t you do your research before you f*cking create news stories for people because you’re a boring, tired f*ck. F*ck you and suck my d*ck.”
In a statement, PETA fired back and shared some words of their own for Davidson. While not backing down, the organization explained,
“If Pete had done his research, he would know that there’s no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog, that at least a quarter of dogs in shelters are purebreds, and that Petfinder has listings for homeless dogs of every breed under the sun, including the one he purchased.”
Davidson recently addressed the situation and noted that his heated reaction came from a place of grief. He said,
“I haven’t seen my mom and sister cry like that in over 20 years. I was trying to cheer up my family. I was already upset that the store had filmed me without my permission or acknowledgement. Then this organization (PETA) made a public example of us, making our grieving situation worse. I am upset. It was a poor choice of words. I shouldn’t have said what I said, but I am not sorry for standing up for myself and my family.”
PETA seemingly wasn’t buying Davidson’s grief story. In another statement following his explanation for leaving the voicemail, PETA shared,
“Our hearts go out to the Davidson family for the loss of their dog, but Pete must know in his heart that there’s no excuse for buying a dog and propping up the puppy mill industry when millions of dogs await loving homes in shelters, and we hope he’ll do the right thing and adopt next time.”
