Beyoncé Honors Dancer O’Shae Sibley After He Was Fatally Stabbed In Homophobic Attack While Voguing To Her ‘Renaissance’ Album
Beyoncé has dedicated a special tribute to a gay dancer/choreographer who recently passed away from what police believe to be a hate crime.
According to reports, O’Shae Sibley, 28, was fatally stabbed after voguing with friends at a gas station in Brooklyn, New York over the weekend. On July 29, the professional dancer was on the way home with his group of friends from the New Jersey Shore. While en route, the group decided to stop at the Midwood gas station to fill up around 11 p.m. At this time, the group was reportedly dancing and voguing to Beyoncé’s “Renaissance” album when a separate group of men came up to them.
Witnesses at the scene allege the two groups began to argue, which caused a dispute. An employee of the gas station recalled the tragic incident and said,
“These people were like ‘We’re Muslim, I don’t want you dancing.’ The gay people, they were not trying to fight.”
Reportedly, O’Shae Sibley and his friends were called inappropriate names and gay slurs by the separate group of men. During the argument, O’Shae Sibley and his camp had on bathing suits and were shirtless. As Sibley began to go back-and-forth with the men, an individual from the other group pulled out a knife, stabbed him, then fled the scene, according to a witness. Sibley’s friend Otis Pena — who was present at the time of the stabbing — tried to stop his friend from bleeding, however, the beloved dancer was taken to an area medical center, where he was pronounced dead.
Otis Pena said,
“They murdered him, because he was gay, because he stood up for his friends.”
In reaction to Sibley’s untimely passing, singer/song-writer Beyoncé posted a message on her official website that reads,
“REST IN POWER O’SHEA SIBLEY”
Officials have reportedly identified the suspect involved in the senseless stabbing. Police describe the suspect as a teenager with dark hair.
A GoFundMe has been set up by Sibley’s father in order to raise funds to lay the dancer to rest.
Sibley’s aunt, Tondra Sibley, said of the tragic news,
“It was a senseless crime. O’Shae has always been a peacemaker. All he wanted to do was dance.”
theJasmineBRAND sends our condolences to the loved ones of O’Shae Sibley during this difficult time.
