Tory Lanez’s Lawyer Officially Files Motion To Appeal 10-Year Prison Sentence After Being Slammed For Vacationing Instead Of Submitting Documents
Rapper Tory Lanez’s legal team is finally preparing to fight his lengthy jail stay.
Just a few days after one of his lawyers was criticized for vacationing instead of filing an appeal on his behalf, the Canadian rap star officially got a court date to appeal his 10-year prison sentence.

Tory Lanez, legal name Daystar Peterson, reportedly appeared on a court docket on Tuesday (Aug. 29th). Legal affairs reporter Meghann Cuniff, who has covered Lanez’s trial since it began last year, shared a copy of the entry, showing a hearing has been set for September 5th. Notes on the entry suggest the court session is for the musician’s appeal, and seemingly an attempt to get bail while the appeal is being decided on. In case you’re unfamiliar, the 31-year-old was given 10 years in jail earlier this month for shooting fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion, 28, back in 2020.

Cuniff also reported that the hearing will heard by the same judge who sentenced Lanez on August 8th. News that the motion was filed comes just a few days after Cuniff criticized Lanez’s lawyer, Jose Baez, for seemingly dragging his feet in submitting the request. Via Twitter, Cuniff shared a screenshot from the legal professional enjoying life in Italy after claiming he’d file the appeal immediately. She wrote as a caption to the photo:
“2+ weeks since Tory Lanez’s lawyer Jose Baez said he’d file a motion to bail Lanez out of jail as he appeals his convictions and 10-year prison sentence. No motion has been filed, and I’m not sure how much of a priority it is for Baez: He’s posting Instagram stories from Italy.”
