Meek Mill Draws Criticism & Sarcastic Commentary After Asking How African Citizens Listen To American Music: ‘I Prefer The Nose Of A Lion’
Rap star Meek Mill is coming under fire with internet users.
The Philadelphia native has been getting a wave of backlash online after posing a question that seemed to unintentionally belittle citizens of Africa.

Meek Mill
Meek Mill, real name Robert Rihmeek Williams, was on his X account (formerly Twitter) discussing potential collaborations with Afro artists when he posed the perceived insulting question. After one social media user asked him when he’d be doing a tour in Africa, the 36-year-old suggested that he’d spend a week on whichever part of the continent that listened to his music the most and record with local musicians. While his message garnered a lot of support, criticism came shortly after, following a subsequent post he uploaded that read:
“Do a lot of people play my music in South Africa I remember having on big show their few years back … how do yall listen to our music in South Africa???? On what platform or in Nigeria?”

In response, many seemed to be offended by Meek’s statement. Some expressed their frustration that it seems the rapper believes a false portrayal of Africa that it’s an under developed nation. One user debunked the “Dreams & Nightmares” artist’s insinuation, writing:
“Lol bro thinks africa is a waste land, they can listen using apple music,Spotify and YouTube. Grow up meek”

Another user, seemingly baffled that the celebrity would make the comment in the first place, added:
“He really tweeted that question in 2024”
As others went on to reversely insult Meek’s overall intelligence, others opted to indulge in his post. Some African natives sarcastically joked about various ways they listen to music at the expense of those, like Meek, who are seemingly unaware that many of their countries have access to the same streaming services that are available worldwide.

At this time it doesn’t seem that Meek has said anything further regarding the situation.
