Braxton Family Began Filming New Reality Show Last Week, Toni Braxton Reveals: ‘We’re Gonna Do It For Traci’

Update (March 13): The Braxton’s new reality series is in full swing.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Toni Braxton opened up about her and her family’s decision to return to reality TV following Traci Braxton’s death in March 2022. Traci Braxton died in March 2022 of esophageal cancer.

Toni Braxton said the family is doing the reality show with Traci Braxton in mind.

“You know, it’s really important [because] we lost one of our sisters, she wanted us to do this show again, and we were hesitant at first. But we said, ‘We’re gonna do it for Traci.’ What’s really important about doing our show is [telling] real stories about family. And I think when people see our stories, maybe we can help them in having a loss in the family.”

She continued,

“Everyone has had at loss in their families, and for us, it was our first and it’s been difficult to deal with. But we’ve had so many people, so many fans, welcoming us, so that part helps us. I don’t think people realize how much they’re helping us.”

She also revealed they “just started shooting last week.”

Original (Feb. 27): The Braxtons are back!

Toni Braxton, Towanda Braxton, Trina Braxton, Tamar Braxton, and, of course, Ms. Evelyn Braxton, have inked a comeback on WeTV with a new reality series simply titled, The Braxtons.

The family, along with beloved late sister Traci Braxton, starred in the network’s Braxton Family Values for seven seasons before the series ended in late 2020. Now, WeTV revealed during AMC Networks’ panel at the Television Critics Assn.’s Winter 2024 press tour, that the Braxtons are returning,

“to share new love, success, heartbreak, ongoing family dynamics and so much more.”

theJasmineBRAND first broke the news in November that the family was gearing up for a comeback.

In the hour-long episodes, fans will see how the sisters are navigating the March 2022 death of Traci Braxton. The Last Call singer died of esophageal cancer. She was 50. The show will also cover the family’s post-coronavirus lives and

“the fast-paced lives of Toni, Towanda, Trina and Tamar as they balance relationships, motherhood, careers, family and, most importantly, their sisterhood.”

Evelyn Braxton said of the return, according to Variety:

“Thank you all for sharing our lives. I hope that through each one of our experiences, you’ll grow with us. Inspiring you in your endeavors, and teaching you the importance of family, love, and experiencing life. Remember, we’re not perfect, we’re only human. Look at God.”

Viewers will also tune in to watch Toni Braxton prepare for her Las Vegas residency with Cedric the Entertainer, and Towanda Braxton being a working mom and taking care of Traci Braxton’s son, Kevin, who is coping with his mother’s death. Trina Braxton is running her businesses and preparing for her two sons to transition into adulthood and Tamar is balancing it all from her music career to motherhood.

After Braxton Family Values went off the air, Tamar Braxton, whose spinoff Tamar & Vince had already aired on WeTV, landed her own series Get Ya Life!, which aired for one season.

When cutting ties with WeTV in 2020, Tamar Braxton said in part via Instagram,

Over the past 11 years there were promises made to protect and portray my story, with the authenticity and honesty I gave. I was betrayed, taken advantage of, overworked, and underpaid. I wrote a letter over 2 months ago asking to be freed from what I believed was excessive and unfair. I explained in personal detail the demise I was experiencing. My cry for help went totally ignored. However the demands persisted. It was my spirit, and my soul that was tainted the most. There are a few things I count on most to be, a good mother, a good daughter, a good partner, a good sister, and a good person. Who I was, begun to mean little to nothing, because it would only be how I was portrayed on television that would matter. It was witnessing the slow death of the woman I became, that discouraged my will to fight. I felt like I was no longer living, I was existing for the purpose of a corporations gain and ratings, and that killed me.”
