Damon Dash Reportedly Ordered By Judge To Hand Over Roc-A-Fella Shares After Failing To Pay $800K Judgment In Movie Producer Lawsuit

It looks like someone else will be “dashing” through a few shares of Roc-A-Fella soon.

According to reports, Roc-A-Fella co-founder Damon Dash is now forced to give up his percentage of the iconic record label due to not paying up on a six-figure judgment.

If you didn’t know, in 2019, filmmaker Josh Webber and Muddy Water Productions, filed a lawsuit against Damon Dash for copyright infringement and defamation.

Reportedly, Damon Dash was brought on to co-direct the urban thriller ‘Dear Frank’ (which stars Claudia Jordan, Columbus Short, and Brian J. White) but was later fired after allegedly showing up to the set under the influence.

However, despite being dropped from the project, Webber claimed the music executive continued to shop the movie as his own to numerous networks, including BET, and pitched it as ‘The List.‘

Ultimately, the plaintiffs won the case in 2022, with Dash owing $155,000 in punitive damages to Muddy Water Productions and $650,000 in compensatory and punitive damages to Webber.

While the cited amounts add up to $805,000, another report documented a whopping $823,000, which has yet to be squared away.

Because of this, a New York judge has been said to have issued a verdict demanding Dash’s cut of Roc-A-Fella. Fellow founders Kareem “Biggs” Burke and Jay-Z supposedly objected to the action, mentioning the company’s bylaws prohibit sell-offs without approval from the board.

U.S, Magistrate Robert W. Lehrburger reputedly clapped back at the two by writing in his ruling,

“The question at the core of the instate dispute is whether the RAF By-Laws’ prohibition on transfer and sale of Dash’s one-third ownership interest in shares of RAF without the consent of RAF’s board of directors legally prevents sale of Dash’s interest in RAF to satisfy the Judgment. The answer indisputably is no.”

He furthered:

“Without jurisdiction to enforce a judgment entered by a federal court, the judicial power would be incomplete and entirely inadequate to the purposes for which it was conferred by the Constitution.”

As of now, no official statements have been released from either party involved.

Roc-A-Fella was famously known for housing heavyweight artists such as Kanye West, Jadakiss, and The Diplomats. It is often deemed one of the most legendary entertainment empires to date.
