UPDATE: ‘RHOP’ Star Karen Huger Charged w/ DUI After Striking Median & Street Signs w/ Maserati

Update (March 21, 2024): Karen Huger has been charged with a DUI after crashing her vehicle in Maryland on Tuesday night. She also has to make a mandatory court appearance.

The Real Housewives of Potomac star was reportedly driving her 2017 Maserati when she struck a median and street signs in the single-car collision.

Along with the DUI, Karen Huger was also charged with a DWI and hit with other citations including speeding, reckless and negligent driving, and driving with a suspended registration, according to court docs obtained by TMZ. She doesn’t have to appear in court for those violations, however, she was hit with multiple fines.

News of the charges came after Karen Huger broke her silence on the incident Wednesday, telling the outlet that she was very emotional and overwhelmed with grief when it happened.

She said,

“Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes during this very frightening experience. I am still in shock from last nights incident, but grateful to be alive today. With the passing of my Beloved Mother, Grief comes and goes in waves, and with Mothers Day approaching it has felt more like a tsunami.”

Viewers of RHOP saw Huger mourn the loss of her parents. Her mother, Georgia Raines Wooden, died in November 2017 after battling Alzheimer’s disease. Her father, Benjamin B. Wooden Jr., died of natural causes just seven months later in June 2018. He also had Alzheimer’s.

Explaining the events that led to the collision, Huger continued in her statement Wednesday:

“Last night I met a girlfriend for dinner, we talked and brought up some very emotionally sensitive topics. I was crying on my way home and saw a car heading right for me. I swerved to avoid the head-on collision, hit the divider and then a tree. I’m hurt, bruised up a bit, but so grateful I am alive! I did receive citations, one of which was unrelated to the incident which is understandable, but what was most surprising is that the car that almost hit me just drove away!”

She added,

“I would like to stress, it’s important to understand your emotional state when driving and may this be a reminder to all to use their seatbelts, my Mother may be my Guardian Angel but the seatbelt saved my life.”

Original Story (March 20, 2024): Karen Huger’s reported love for speed has landed her in some legal trouble.

According to reports, on Tuesday night (Mar. 19), “The Real Housewives of Potomac” star was involved in a car accident while driving a 2017 Maserati in Potomac, Maryland. A representative for Montgomery County Police shared with TMZ that Karen Huger was aggressively operating the vehicle — driving too fast for the area — before striking a median and crosswalk sign at an intersection. Reportedly, after the first hit, the vehicle continued moving and soon collided with a parking sign off the roadway, finally coming to a stop.

The impact was so strong there’s a chance it may have totaled the vehicle as it was purported the Maserati was undrivable and had to be removed from the scene by a tow truck. Thankfully, it’s said that no one else was in the vehicle and the airbags did deploy in the car. No word yet on whether the 60-year-old was injured in the wreck.

Karen Huger wasn’t arrested, however, she was allegedly given multiple citations. The reality TV star has yet to speak on the incident publically. The crash follows a recent vacation she seemingly took. Three days ago the Bravo celeb posted images of herself enjoying time at the beach in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
