Kelly Clarkson Reveals She Took Weight Loss Medication After ‘My Blood Work Got So Bad’: ‘Everybody Thinks It’s Ozempic, It’s Not’
Kelly Clarkson is getting real about her weight loss journey.
The American Idol alum, 42, revealed that she took prescription medication to lose weight.
Speaking to Whoopi Goldberg on her daytime talk show Monday (May 13), Kelly Clarkson swooned over the EGOT recipient and said,
“Every time I run into you, you look younger! You’re like Benjamin Button. It’s like crazy every time you walk in!”
Whoopi Goldberg, 68, credited it to her weight loss and said she’s dropped “almost two people,” adding that she uses “the wonderful shot that works for folks who need some help.” Kelly Clarkson then opened up about her own success, telling The View co-host,
“I’ve lost a lot as well. Mine is a different one than people assume. I ended up having to do that too because my blood work got so bad.”
She didn’t reveal which particular weight loss drug she’s using, she explained that she began taking the medication after her doctor,
“chased me for like two years and I was like, ‘no, I’m afraid of it.”
She explained,
“I already have thyroid problems.’ I was afraid. Everybody thinks it’s Ozempic, it’s not, it’s something else.”
She said she had a change of heart after watching footage from a birthday show she taped in New York last April. She said she was getting ready to release the performance to the public,
“and then all of a sudden I paused it and I was like, ‘Who the f*ck is that?!’ I swear to God! It sounds insane.”
Whoopi Goldberg related to Clarkson and said on the set of Till, someone thought she was wearing a “fat suit.” Goldberg said,
“I was indignant! I was like, ‘This is not a fat suit! This is me!’ And then I saw…”
Agreeing, Clarkson chimed in,
“You see it and you’re like, ‘She’s about to die of a heart attack.'”
Still, Clarkson said she was never insecure about her weight.
Goldberg, who has been open about her decision to use weight loss medication, said she was at one point 300 pounds. For Clarkson, who is 5’3″, she was 203 pounds.
