Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey & Brandy Snubbed From Apple Music’s Best 100 Albums Of All Time

Some social media users vehemently disagree with Apple Music’s recently released ranking of the greatest albums of all time.

Specifically, fans of R&B stars Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and Brandy have expressed their frustrations with the choices after all three failed to place anywhere on the list.

Apple Music has been releasing its rankings over several days across social media. While notable hip-hop and R&B stars did land spots throughout the bracket, with Mary J. Blige’s My Life being placed at #86 and Travis Scott’s Astroworld at #98, many have expressed concern over the lack of other classic R&B albums and their artists being snubbed. Music producer Jermaine Dupri was one of Apple’s most famous criticizers, writing to his X account (formerly Twitter):

“Looking at this @AppleMusic top 100 albums list is sad, the disrespect to R&B is CRAZY!!!!! It’s giving not worthy.”

One of Jermaine Dupri’s longtime collaborators, R&B chart-topper Mariah Carey, was one artist who notably didn’t have any of her albums recognized, despite two of her projects – Music Box (1993) and Daydream (1995), being ranked among the best-selling albums of all time. Reacting to Mariah Carey not being mentioned, social media users called out the music organization, with many labeling the decision not to include the 5x Grammy award winner “insane.”

Others expressed outrage over two other R&B greats, Whitney Houston and her Cinderella co-star Brandy, missing the list. All three singers trended on social media as people reacted to the rankings, with some commenters arguing that a few other R&B artists, such as SZA, whose SOS ranked #72, and Lauryn Hill, whose Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill landed the #1 spot, shouldn’t have been ranked over Carey, Houston, nor Brandy. Others slammed the general decision not to mention the ladies on the list.

Despite the criticism, some music fans celebrated their faves earning spots on the Apple ranking. Michael Jackson, Prince, Frank Ocean, and Kendrick Lamar were a few notables who rounded off the top 10, and superstar singer Beyoncé is one of a small number of musicians with multiple entries. The 32x Grammy award winner’s self-titled album landed at #36 on the list, and her critically acclaimed Lemonade landed at #10.
