Russell Simmons Claims Move To Bali Has Nothing To Do w/ Numerous Sexual Assault Allegations & Ongoing Legal Issues
Russell Simmons is fed up with the rumors he’s in hiding!
It’s no secret that the record executive has been living in Bali for years. It’s alleged that his move was prompted by the several women who have accused him of sexual harassment, assault, or rape. However, according to Russell Simmons, the serious allegations against him played no part in his change of address and are not keeping him out of the US. The 66-year-old expressed to AllHipHop,
“People saying that I somehow can’t come home when I’m there all the time wears on you. It wears on me after a while to keep hearing the same narrative, which is false. I’m always in L.A., I’m always in New York and Miami. And I’ve never had any reason to feel unsafe in America.”

His remarks were meant to clear up a recent statement he gave in a motion explaining his living situation to a New York court. In February, Russell Simmons was hit with another lawsuit from a woman claiming he sexually assaulted and harassed her in the 1990s. Seemingly sharing he has no plans to move back to his birth country, Simmons reportedly wrote in his latest filing on the matter,
“I am not physically present in New York and I do not have an intention to live in New York in the future. I own no property in the United States. I have been living in Bali since 2018, which is where I intend to remain. For at least nine years before I moved to Bali, I lived in California. As a California resident, I paid California resident taxes in the years immediately prior to moving to Bali. Currently, I pay California non-resident state taxes.”

If he did move overseas to hide from his legal issues, unfortunately for Simmons, the change of scenery doesn’t seem to be keeping them away. As previously reported, former Def Jam executive Drew Dixon was able to have him served with a defamation lawsuit at his Gdas Bali Health And Wellness Resort in March. Last month he motioned to have her suit dismissed, claiming she has no credible evidence to support he defamed her. According to Drew Dixon, Simmons tried to discredit her reputation and claimed her rape accusation (and the others he faces) is a ploy for money.
