Lil Mama Slams The Current State Of Female Rap + Blames Nicki Minaj
Rapper Lil Mama is candidly sharing her thoughts on the current state of female rap.
The 34-year-old artist recently took to Instagram to express her views on the landscape of female rap today, and her comments took a sharp turn as she seemingly referred to Nicki Minaj as a “musical prostitute.”

The comments were sparked by a post from musician Dee-1, who shared a video montage featuring performances by Megan Thee Stallion, Latto, Glorilla, Ice Spice, and Sexyy Red at this year’s BET Awards. The audio accompanying the video was a rap that stated,
“We call women Queens, but we celebrate the prostitution of their bodies.”
Dee-1’s post went on to describe the women’s music as ungodly and poisonous.

Lil Mama quickly commented under the post, expressing her agreement and noting that Nicki Minaj is leading the current roster of female rappers:
“Then gave Nicki an award for leading this pack. Corporate “BARS” be going over our head. They laughing at us for sure!”

When another commenter pointed out that Lil Kim led first, followed by Nicki, Lil Mama responded,
“Keyword: THIS pack. These young women are not influenced by Kim. These women are 23. What major musical prostitutes do you remember from the last 15 years? They are laughing at us, and the award was a ‘thanks to you, now we have 7, 8, 9 of ’em.'”

Lil Mama went on to say that in years past, there were choices in style and content within female rap, and that the current lineup will one day realize they are worth more than what they’re promoting:
“There were definitely options in style and content. It’s all love. God is the greatest and these women are gonna wake up and realize that they are worth more than any price tag. Sometimes we can’t see ourselves. We are just living… so I can understand how this can happen and feel normal.”

It’s clear that Lil Mama doesn’t endorse the current direction of female rap or its “leader”, Nicki Minaj. However, Lil Mama seems to favor rapper and performer Coi Leray.
Lil Mama attended the Jhene Aiko concert in Brooklyn, NY on July 1 and enthusiastically supported Coi Leray, who opened the show.

Her caption read,
“@coileray killed it tonight… and every night.”
