Joe Biden Says He Nearly Fell Asleep On Stage During Debate w/ Trump + Blames International Travel For Debate Performance
Joe Biden is clearing the air after his debate performance last week.
At a campaign fundraiser on Tuesday, July 2nd in McLean, Virginia, President Joe Biden addressed his underwhelming performance during the debate with former President Donald Trump.
Joe Biden, 81, candidly attributed his lackluster showing to his extensive international travel leading up to the event:
“I decided to travel around the world a couple of times … shortly before the debate … I didn’t listen to my staff … and then I almost fell asleep onstage.”
He reportedly stated that his extensive travel wasn’t an excuse but an explanation for his performance.
In the weeks leading up to the debate, Joe Biden’s itinerary was packed with international commitments. He traveled to France to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day, attended the Group of Seven Summit in Italy, and participated in a Los Angeles fundraiser before spending several days at Camp David preparing for the debate.
During his speech at the private fundraiser, Biden emphasized the critical importance of defeating Donald Trump in the upcoming election. He added that he “feels good” about it, noting that his campaign and the DNC have reportedly raised $38 million since last Thursday’s debate.
Biden initially addressed concerns about his debate performance the day after, responding to ongoing critics who raised concerns about his age and mental acuity.
He stated,
“Folks, I know I’m not a young man, to state the obvious. I don’t debate as well as I used to, but I know what I do know. I know how to tell the truth!”
Following his spirited statement at the North Carolina rally, Biden garnered enthusiastic cheers from the audience.
