Drew Barrymore’s ‘Hollywood Squares’ Reboot Fires Showrunner For Allegedly Raising His Arms & Telling Minority Crew Members ‘Don’t Rob Me’
A racially insensitive jest cost the rebooted Hollywood Squares showrunner his job.

Jesse Collins Entertainment, the production company producing the new reboot for CBS alongside Drew Barrymore’s Flower Films, quickly decided to fire showrunner Rubino after the incident was reported to HR.
A source familiar with the matter stated that Rubino was accused of raising his arms and saying “Don’t rob me” to three people of color (believed to be Black and Hispanic/Latino) working as production assistants.

In case you’re unfamiliar, Hollywood Squares was a staple celebrity-filled gameshow from its 1960s inception to its 1st reboot in 1998, and second cancellation in 2004. The show has been visited by a wealth of famous faces, such as Whoopi Goldberg and Rosie O’Donnell, and sees contestants play tic-tac-toe to win money and prizes by utilizing the celebrity-occupied squares to answer questions that can lead to them to a game win.
CBS announced it was, once again, bringing the series back to airwaves in collaboration with Barrymore, who will take the coveted middle square on season 1 of the rebooted show, which is expected to premiere sometime next year.
