BeatKing’s Daughter Gives Hilariously Touching Tribute At Rapper’s Celebration Of Life Service: “We’re All Devastated…But Nobody Can Be More Upset Than Whataburger’
Houston artist BeatKing is still inspiring laughter even after death.
The late rapper’s daughter had attendees giggling at his home-going service this past Thursday (August 29th), while recalling the many lovable things about her dad.
BeatKing’s eldest daughter Jayla took to the stage at the Bayou City Event Center in Houston, thanking guests for attending her father’s celebration of life service while reflecting on his memory. Cracking a few jokes at the musician’s expense, she stated to attendees:
“When I talk about my dad, a lot of people expect to me to start maybe start crying and stuff but he was just like way too goofy, too lame, too annoying to just cry over like – he would not want me to cry over him…so I just make sure I always keep a smile on my face at all times because that’s what he’d want me to do.”
She continued:
“A lot of you guys know BeatKing. A lot of you guys know Justin. But I know somebody that only two people on this earth know and that’s dad…Dad is the goofiest person on the planet…the lamest person on the planet…Dad is the type of person to say – I’ll ask him ‘can I get my hair done please’ he’ll say ‘I can hook y’all up with my barber’…that’s only like $20 dollars.”
Laughing that her rebuttal would often be a counter request for $300, Jayla quipped that BeatKing would shoot back at her:
“$300 Dollars?! I can buy 50 boxes of wings with that.”
Before offering her sincere gratitude to the room filled with BeatKing’s family and loved ones, Jayla took one last jab referencing a famous Houston burger spot, joking:
“I know all of us here are very devastated with the passing, but I just feel like personally, nobody can be more upset than Whataburger,”
To a laughing crowd she continued:
“Without him Whataburger would be going bankrupt probably.”
As we previously covered, Justin Riley, known professionally as BeatKing/Club Godzilla, tragically passed away last week after suffering a pulmonary embolism. The beat maker, known in his hometown for taking over the club and college party scene throughout the 2010’s prior to landing collabs with artists such as 2 Chainz and Juicy J, was 39-years-old at the time of his death.
Along with Jayla, BeatKing is survived by his second daughter Kayla who was also on stage during her sisters speech. Following her heart-warming address, the two girls accepted a Proclamation on BeatKing’s beahlf making August 29th officially BeatKing Day in the city.
