Meagan Good Shares How Being Pretty Has Hindered Her Acting Career

Meagan Good is speaking on the downside of pretty privilege.

During a recent podcast interview with Raven-Symoné and her wife Miranda Maday, Meagan Good was asked what her experience has been being as pretty as she is and if her looks have hindered her acting career in any way. Answering truthfully, the Divorce in the Black star said,

“I can’t tell you how many times I’ve walked into something and I’ve had an audition and they were like ‘She was great but we just don’t realistically believe her as this character because she’s a pretty girl.’ And I’m like, how can you determine what that character should look like or even what I will look like when I [take the role.]”

Meagan Good continued, sharing there have been moments when the leading man was cast and she was passed on a role because “he doesn’t look like he could get her.”

She added,

“That’s doing the character a disservice because that means you’re just saying she’s just only about the look.”

Meagan Good also noted that despite her having a good reputation in the industry, sometimes people will still be shocked she’s not a mean girl or surprised she’s intelligent because of how she looks.

Meagan added,

“At the end of the day, there’s no complaints. My life has been incredible, and I’m thankful for everything exactly as it is, all things included.”

Meagan Good, 43, started her acting career as a child and at 13 she landed her first small film role in the cult classic 1995 movie Friday. Her breakout role came a couple of years later as Cisely Batiste in Eve’s Bayou. Since than, she has starred in several popular TV and film projects, including Cousin Skeeter, Harlem, Roll Bounce, and Think Like a Man.
