Jaden Smith Opens Up About His Weirdness: ‘I Try To Act Weird On Purpose’
Jaden Smith is opening up about his… weirdness.
In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), he shared,
“All the weird s*** you’ve ever seen me do was me thinking I was totally normal. So now sometimes I try to act weird on purpose so y’all think it’s on purpose, but at the end of the day, I’ve been trying to fit in this whole time, and I guess it’s not exactly going to plan.”
This message follows an interview with Complex, which featured the headline, “I Interviewed Jaden Smith and It Was Somehow Even Weirder Than Expected.” The article highlights Jaden’s signature eccentricity, recalling moments like him showing up in a white bat suit to his high school prom and carrying his own hair as an accessory at the 2017 MET Gala.
Now 26, Jaden Smith hasn’t lost his flair for the bizarre. During the interview, he arrived in custom army fatigues adorned with small plastic balls and responded to questions with unrelated quotes from Twilight.
When asked why being weird is important to him, he candidly revealed,
“I went through a lot of my life trying to be normal. It was a really big deal for me for a long time that people thought that I was normal. And that bothered me after a while.”
He continued,
“I started to feel like people didn’t really understand me or see me, and I wasn’t really trying to show anybody that. Sometimes it’s so frustrating to watch people try to follow the ‘normal’ thing to do when that’s not what they really want to do in their art. It’s very frustrating. And then you see people fall into it, and generations of people fall into it. So I actively try to be myself.”
Fans can dive deeper into Jaden’s distinctive weirdness with his EP, 2024: A Case Study of the Long Term Effects of Young Love, which offers a mental snapshot of his current emotional state, highlighting the unique highs and lows of life and love.
