Lamorne Morris Recalls Struggling w/ Depression While Filming ‘New Girl’ Episode w/ Prince
Lamorne Morris may have a surprising pick for his favorite New Girl episode, as it’s also one of his most difficult memories.
Reflecting on the iconic Season 3 “Prince” episode, Lamorne Morris recently revealed on the Podcrushed podcast that filming alongside the legendary musician coincided with a dark time in his life. He shared, “My favorite is the Prince episode because… you get to hang out with Prince,” but added, “It was also the worst episode to film.”
During that period, Lamorne Morris was unexpectedly hit with intense depression that lingered on set:
“I just remember, like, doing a scene then going in my trailer and just crying for no reason. Everything was going great… It was like, ‘What am I complaining about?’”
The actor recalled that the mental weight began to lift after his then-girlfriend encouraged him to change his diet and get active: “She started cooking for me… only healthy foods… [and] making me juice in the morning.” As he adopted healthier habits, he explained, the dark days “went away.”
Lamorne added that the episode while challenging, was also memorable because of Prince’s unique aura on set:
“When you meet him you’re like, ‘I see why. This man is illuminating.’”
