Tyka Nelson, Sister Of Prince, Passes Away At 64 [CONDOLENCES]
Tyka Nelson, the only full sibling of music icon Prince has died at the age of 64.
Tyka Nelson’s son, President Nelson, confirmed her passing to the Star Tribune, stating she died on Monday morning (Nov. 4) but did not disclose further details.
Her cousin, Charles “Chazz” Smith, shared a heartfelt tribute on Facebook, writing, “
Our family is very saddened to share the news of my cousin Tyka Evene Nelson who passed away this morning.”
Tyka Nelson and Prince Rogers Nelson were the only children of John L. Nelson and Mattie Della Shaw Baker, with five half-siblings who were involved in a legal dispute over Prince’s estate after his death in 2016. In May 2017, a ruling confirmed that Tyka and her half-siblings would equally share Prince’s assets following his tragic overdose.
Tyka was dedicated to preserving her brother’s legacy, playing a crucial role in transforming Prince’s recording studio and concert venue, Paisley Park, into a museum honoring his life and artistry.
She is survived by her sons, President and Sir, her sisters Sharon and Norrine Nelson, and her brother Omarr Baker.
