Scottie Pippen Says Magic Johnson Is The GOAT + Explains Why LeBron James Doesn’t Deserve The Title
Scottie Pippen stirred debate with his thoughts on the GOAT conversation. While he dismissed the idea of a true GOAT in team sports, he gave major props to Magic Johnson.
During an appearance on the “PBD Podcast,” Scottie Pippen said,
“To me, there’s no GOAT. There’s great teams, but as an individual, you got to go to individual sports.”
Still, when pressed, he called Magic Johnson the standout for his leadership and versatility:
“Magic Johnson to me is a bigger GOAT than anybody… as a rookie, he steps in and plays a position that no one even knew he could play. That’s transcending.”
He went on to explain why he wouldn’t choose LeBron James for the title, suggesting that LeBron James values individual accolades over team success:
“My success as a team is more successful than LeBron. I got six rings. Do you want individual accolades or do you want championships? ’Cause I didn’t chase mine.”
As for his all-time draft picks, Scottie Pippen picked Michael Jordan first, himself second, and either Dennis Rodman or Horace Grant to round out the squad:
“A team with that lineup, in their prime years, could beat any team.”
