Chris Evans Says He Is ‘Happily Retired’ From Marvel, Denies Report He’s Returning For Next ‘Avengers’ Movie
Chris Evans is shutting down claims that he’s making a Marvel comeback.
In a recent Esquire profile on Anthony Mackie, Evans dismissed rumors about his supposed return as Captain America in the 2026 film Avengers: Doomsday:
”That’s not true. I’ve just stopped responding to it… Yeah, no — happily retired!”
Evans first suited up as Steve Rogers in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger and made his final appearance as the hero in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. Though he has since moved on from the role, Evans did surprise fans with a cameo as Johnny Storm/Human Torch in Deadpool & Wolverine last year.

Meanwhile, Mackie, who takes the lead in the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World, said Evans didn’t mention anything about a return when they spoke recently:
“I talked to Chris a few weeks ago and it wasn’t on the table then. I was like, ‘You know, they said they’re bringing everyone back for [Doomsday]. Are you coming back?’ He goes, ‘Oh, you know, I’m happily retired.’”
Fans can catch Mackie’s Captain America in Brave New World when it hits theaters on February 14.
