Donald Trump Acknowledges Black History Month & Black Leaders After Previously Criticizing DEI Efforts
President Donald Trump marked Black History Month by expressing his “honor” in recognizing the contributions of Black Americans, calling them “among our country’s most consequential leaders.” In a statement, he highlighted figures like Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Thomas Sowell, and Justice Clarence Thomas, stating they embody “what is best in America and her citizens.”
Black History Month, initially founded by Carter G. Woodson as Black History Week around President Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, honors the achievements of Black Americans. The theme for this year is “African Americans and Labor.”
Donald Trump also extended his “tremendous gratitude” to Black Americans for their impact on the nation’s progress, saying their “achievements… continue to serve as an inspiration for all Americans.” He praised Tiger Woods for “pushing the boundaries of excellence” and paving the way for others, underscoring his enduring influence in American society.
