Lizzo Explains Hiatus From Music After Facing Public Scrutiny: ‘Protecting My Peace’
Lizzo is stepping back into the spotlight with her upcoming album “Love in Real Life” and opened up about her recent journey on “On Purpose With Jay Shetty.”
Reflecting on a music “gap year,” she shared, “I’m protecting my peace. But like, people were like, wait, so what’s that supposed to mean?” She admitted, “I don’t feel like I’ve expressed myself fully in the last two years… Sometimes it’s just unnecessary [to speak], and sometimes it can get you into some stuff.”
Following a 2023 lawsuit filed by former dancers—which Lizzo called “false allegations” and “sensationalized stories”—she explained, “Whoever Lizzo is to the world is not really even me… that disconnect is depressing.” Fame, she said, turned her into a “fictional story.”
Yet she’s reclaiming her voice: “I’m the author… I’m taking back my narrative by continuing to tell my story from me.” Lizzo added, “I just have to continue to be me.”
