‘Girlfriends’ Creator Mara Brock Akil Wants A Movie Follow-Up, But Needs $50 Million To Make It Happen
Mara Brock Akil is down to bring back Girlfriends, but it’s going to take a whole lot of coin.
During a recent appearance on Sherri, the producer and screenwriter was asked if she’d ever reboot the beloved series. “I want to tell that story. I have tried to tell that story,” she told host Sherri Shepherd.
Then she asked:
“Do you know anybody who has 50 million dollars? Do we have five people who have ten million? I would love to do a movie.”

She ended her answer with love to the fans, saying,
“I really want to thank the audience. You haven’t let it go.”
Girlfriends premiered in 2000 and ran for eight seasons before ending in 2008.
