NBA Star Jimmy Butler Sues Former Landlord Over Alleged Moldy Mansion That Harmed His Cancer-Stricken Father
Jimmy Butler is taking his former landlord to court, claiming a mold-infested Miami Beach rental endangered his family’s health.
According to court docs obtained by In Touch, the landlord, Five Star Marketing and Promotions, first sued Jimmy Butler in February, accusing him of overstaying the lease, failing to pay $260K in rent, and leaving the five-bedroom home in “complete disrepair.” They claimed he changed the locks, blocked maintenance, let the pool fill with algae, and neglected the AC system, which allegedly caused a leak, ceiling damage, and widespread mold. They demanded an additional $127K in repair costs.

In a countersuit, Butler denied the allegations and fired back with claims of his own. He admitted withholding rent but said the landlord breached the lease first by failing to maintain the property. He alleged the home had multiple leaks, a broken elevator, and severe mold that “threatened the health and safety of [Jimmy] and his family, including his three children.” His lawyer stated, “Members of [Jimmy’s] family, including his children, became ill and were constantly coughing,” adding that Butler’s father, who had cancer, “suffered from bouts of coughing and was distressed by the ill effects of his long exposure to mold.”
Butler claimed the mold contaminated his belongings and forced his family to vacate the home several times. He’s seeking more than $400K in damages.
