Supreme Court Grants Trump’s DOGE Team Unrestricted Access To Social Security Data, Sparking Major Privacy Concerns

The Supreme Court has cleared the way for the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to access Social Security systems holding sensitive data on millions of Americans.

“We conclude that… SSA may proceed to afford members of the SSA DOGE Team access to the agency records,” the court wrote in an unsigned order.

The decision, backed by the conservative majority, also paused orders demanding transparency from DOGE. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson dissented, warning it creates “grave privacy risks” and grants “unfettered data access to DOGE.”

The Trump administration says DOGE needs the information to cut waste, while critics argue it’s a privacy overreach. DOGE, once led by Elon Musk, has drawn controversy for aggressive cost-cutting measures. A separate order also sided with Trump by halting a ruling that would’ve forced DOGE to release internal records, a win in the ongoing legal fight over how transparent the team must be with the public.

Are you surprised by this move?
