DoorDash Launches Emergency Food Response As SNAP Benefits Cutoff Looms
#DoorDash to the rescue.
The food-delivery giant is stepping up in the face of a looming food-aid crisis, launching its “Emergency Food Response” initiative as benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) risk being paused.
DoorDash announced that it will distribute 1 million free meals through its Project DASH network and waive delivery and service fees for an estimated 300,000 grocery orders placed by #SNAP recipients at participating retailers nationwide.
While the initiative is meant to act as a short-term bridge as the government #shutdown threatens the flow of SNAP benefits to more than 40 million Americans, the company stressed that it cannot replace systemic solutions. “It’s a stopgap, not a solution. But help is needed now.”
