“Dance Moms” Coach Abby Lee Miller Breaks Silence On Racism Claims From Nia Sioux: I Have Different Memories’
#AbbyLeeMiller recalls things a little differently from the girls of her infamous Abby Lee Dance Company (ALDC).
Speaking with TMZ about the racism #NiaSioux, who was the only Black dancer for several seasons, said she experienced from Abby and others during her time on #DanceMoms, Abby responded that she “has different memories compared to what the girls have,” adding that she remembers “doing a lot of good for them.”
Abby, 60, emphasized that none of the dancers had official contracts with her company, suggesting that Nia and the other girls weren’t under formal obligation to remain with her. Despite having a different POV, Abby insisted she’s not planning any legal action, stating, “I don’t plan to sue or take legal action as of now … it’s Nia’s freedom of speech.”
Nia, now 24, detailed the harsh treatment she says she endured as a child on the #TLC series in her memoir Bottom of the Pyramid: A Memoir of Persevering, Dancing for Myself, and Starring in My Own Life. In the book, she recounts Abby allegedly asking her, “Don’t you just wish you had white-girl hair?” and naming her first solo “Nattie of the Jungle.” The routine was reportedly based on a child raised by monkeys. Nia also alleges that Abby offered her mentor, former #DanityKane member Aubrey O’Day, $10,000 not to work with her when she began pursuing a singing career.
Abby added during her interview that she’s ready to move on and “It is what it is.”
