Kevin Durant Admits He Stopped Getting Haircuts, Putting on Lotion – and Sometimes Skips Showers

Kevin Durant has never been one to follow the NBA’s unwritten style rules, even as the league has increasingly turned arena tunnels into fashion runways. During a recent episode of Fred VanVleet’s Unguarded podcast, Durant explained why haircuts simply aren’t a priority for him. “Why get cut? Why? Why? Why lotion my—why lotion?” Durant said. “I don’t lotion my body like that. I might lotion my hands if they a little dry, but I don’t.” VanVleet noted that Durant is occasionally seen with a fresh fade, prompting Durant to clarify that those moments are usually unplanned.

According to Durant, he doesn’t go out of his way to book a barber. Instead, haircuts only happen if the barber is already around. “What make me get a cut, for real, is when I’m in my room playing the game and my homies like, ‘Yeah, we got the barber on the way,’” he said. “‘All right, f—k it. If y’all getting a cut, I go get one, too.’ I ain’t calling them myself.” Outside of those situations, Durant said he can go weeks without cutting his hair.

Durant added that this mindset wasn’t always the case earlier in his career. At one point, he admitted he cared about keeping up with grooming routines but eventually decided it wasn’t worth the mental energy. “I really used to care at some point about like, ‘Man, I need to get a cut this week,’” he said. “Then after a while, I was like, I’m way more relaxed when I’m just not giving a f—k.” He went on to say, “So I just start getting cut, stop lotioning. I stop taking showers.”

That last comment caught VanVleet off guard, leading him to question Durant about his hygiene. Durant clarified his remarks, saying he still showers after workouts. “I shower, but I might go a day without, two days,” Durant explained. “I might go two days sometimes without, I mean, hopping in that water. No, no, no. I’m not saying after I work out — I’m not saying after I work out, I take a shower. I’m just saying not two days without, if I’m sitting in the house.”
