[Update] Morris Brown College Reverses Course, Restores President Kevin James Just One Week After Sudden Firing
Morris Brown College has reinstated President Dr. Kevin James just one week after the Board of Trustees abruptly removed him from his post, the institution confirmed through an update to its official website on Tuesday afternoon.
The reversal comes after James publicly disclosed on Facebook that he had been terminated on January 12 without a stated reason or a “substantive explanation.” In the wake of his dismissal, the college initially thanked him for his service and appointed trustee Nzinga Shaw as interim president.
James, a native of Columbia, South Carolina, has spent more than two decades in education and holds degrees from Winthrop University and Troy State University. He took office at Morris Brown on March 1, 2019, and oversaw one of the most significant milestones in the school’s history: the restoration of its accreditation in 2022, nearly 20 years after it was lost.
Morris Brown has not yet clarified what prompted either the firing or the reinstatement.
