Big Sean Reveals Nipsey Hussle’s M*rder Sparked A ‘Very Deep’ Depression That Forced Him To Step Away From Music

The loss of Nipsey Hussle forced Big Sean to confront a painful chapter in his life that he says changed him forever.

During a candid conversation on the ABC News podcast “All Access” with Linsey Davis, alongside Usher, the Detroit rapper reflected on how his friend’s 2019 m*rder impacted his mental health. He admitted he fell into a “very deep” depression that ultimately pushed him to step away from music.

“I was just sharing what was going on in my life. I didn’t realize that I was being so vulnerable. I wasn’t trying to be a spokesperson for mental health per se,” Sean explained. “I was just expressing how I was, and was going into therapy and experiencing a time of heavy ups and downs, a time of depression.”

He said he “hit a wall” and had to “climb over” it before it crushed him. “I had to rediscover myself,” he shared. “I didn’t even know what I liked anymore.”

Sean added, “I had to put myself first,” crediting faith, therapy, and self-care for helping him heal.
