NBA Star Bam Adebayo Fires Back At Critics Calling 83-Point Game “Unethical” After Passing Kobe Bryant’s Record

NBA Star Bam Adebayo Fires Back At Critics Calling 83-Point Game “Unethical” After Passing Kobe Bryant’s Record
Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo is pushing back against critics who questioned the legitimacy of his historic scoring night after he dropped 83 points in a game against the Washington Wizards.
The explosive performance helped lead the Heat to a 150–129 win and moved Adebayo past Kobe Bryant’s legendary 81-point game from 2006, giving him the second-highest single-game scoring total in NBA history behind Wilt Chamberlain’s 100.
But the record-setting night sparked controversy across the basketball world, with some critics accusing Miami of using questionable tactics — including keeping Adebayo in late and intentionally fouling to create extra possessions — to help him chase the milestone.
Adebayo quickly addressed the backlash, making it clear he wasn’t about to stop scoring during a historic moment. “If I have 70 with 9 minutes to go, who would say, ‘Coach take me out’?” he said while responding to the criticism.
The Heat star also pointed out that decisions about playing time ultimately belong to the coaching staff, not the player, as debate continues over whether the pursuit of the record crossed the line.
Despite the controversy, the 83-point outburst has already cemented Adebayo’s place in NBA history, placing his name alongside legends like Chamberlain and Bryant on the league’s all-time single-game scoring list.
