[UPDATE] Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s UK Return Doesn’t Reinstate Royal Status, King Charles Clarifies

[UPDATE] Prince Harry & Meghan
Markle’s UK Return Doesn’t Reinstate Royal Status, King

King Charles has moved to head off any confusion about #PrinceHarry and #MeghanMarkle’s status now that they’re back living in Britain.

In guidance sent Monday (Sept. 7) to senior government, military, and civic officials, the King made clear there’s been “no change” to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s status since they stepped away as working royals in 2020. The move came after officials reportedly sought guidance on how Harry and Meghan should be treated following their move back to the UK last month with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Basically, that means Harry and Meghan remain private citizens, still don’t use their “His/Her Royal Highness” titles, and any charitable work they take on is done on their own behalf rather than the Crown’s. The timing matters: Harry already has #UK charity appearances lined up, including work tied to the Invictus Games, and Meghan has reportedly been eyeing a return to causes she supported during her royal days. Their office and security arrangements will also stay separate from the #Royal Household, with security continuing to be handled independently by British authorities.
