“The Game’s” Hosea Chancez Dishes On New Season, If Brandy Can Really Act & His Private Life
Hosea Chancez, who plays Malik on “The Game,” answered some questions about the new season of the show, his other career ventures, and his personal life. During his interview, Hosea hints that his character, Malik, might have to start taking responsibility for someone else this season, despite the fact that, in the past seasons, he wasn’t even able to be responsible for himself. He couldn’t say much more about that, but he did confirm that superstar singer Brandy will be on the show. He said,
“Brandy is on the show. She’s not really too much in my parts this season but she has had things where she’s worked with everybody. You’re gonna have to wait and see but she’s a really good actress. She’s on point, so that makes it easy to work with her.”
On what he likes and dislikes about playing his character this season:
“My favorite thing about playing him is that he’s so honest. He says whatever’s on his mind. He has no filter. And that is probably the most likeable thing about the character for me is that he does everything based on truth—it’s his truth but truth. And the hardest thing about playing him is when he is a lot less careful. And he will just say something to double the score. So it’s a gift and a curse in a way because it’s opposite of myself because I’m very conscious of what I put out into the world, you know – what energy I give other people and how I handle my surroundings – and he’s the opposite.”
On if Malik will get into a serious relationship:
“Maybe one day, hopefully. But not right now, I don’t think so.”
On his career plans for the future:
“I’m doing some producing coming up in 2012, television and film. Television and film should depict real life. For me, as long as there is a place and time in this world where there is a culture or society or a people that reflects whatever it is, I think the art should be told. My thing is, as long as it’s authentic to what’s real then I wanna do it. No matter what the story is, I have no boundaries about that, no matter what the race or the product is, as long as it’s real.”
On the type of women he likes:
“I like a lot of different things but cooking is definitely a plus. But most women don’t seem to cook today.”
On his worst fan moment:
“The weirdest fan moment would be at an airport in Atlanta. This girl came up to me on the train and she thought I was gonna be my character and I wasn’t. She was disappointed. She was like, “You ain’t gonna go up on me or say nothing?” And I was like, “No, why would go up on you?” And she was just like, “Oh, so you ain’t nothing like your character, huh?” And I was like “Nah.” And she was like “Aw, boo” then walked away. Yeah, and at the Atlanta airport, they keep it real with you.”
The show is set to return with 22 half-hour episodes, beginning Tuesday, January 10 at 10 p.m. In addition to music star Brandy joining the cast, and long-time favorites Melanie, Derwin, Tasha, Malik, and Jason, season five also welcomes the return of the prodigal sports manager Irv Smiff (PJ Byrne); the mother of Derwin’s son, Janay (Gabrielle Dennis); Malik’s former girlfriend, Jenna; as well as Malik’s former assistant turned entrepreneur, Tee Tee and his famous Wing Truck (Barry T. Floyd). A number of exciting new guest appearances, include Shawn Marion, Estelle, Selita Ebanks, DeRay Davis, Nene Leakes, Rockmond Dunbar, and the Emmy-award winning Loretta Devine among others.
