[Interview] ‘Best Man Holiday’ Actors Harold Perrineau & Regina Hall Explain Their Hardest Scenes to Film: ‘It was REALLY hurtful.’
TheJasmineBRAND: And what about yourself?
Regina Hall: The same thing, I was in. I was excited when we just heard a pitch from Malcolm before we even got a script. So I was really excited and when we read it we were just wanting it to get made because it wasn’t an automatic yes. Then we got our green light and so here we are.
TheJasmineBRAND: What was the hardest scene for y’all to film?
Harold Perrineau: The hardest thing to film I would say would be the hardest thing to watch. To watch these two fight. The fight scene between the two ladies because it wasn’t just the fight, they’re such good actors. You can see the raw emotion that was sending them to this conflict.
Regina Hall: Caused by him the man right here.
Harold Perrineau: Yeah, but it was hard to watch because you can see it was really hurtful.
Regina Hall: We had fun shooting it but you’re angry, you’re hurt. For me the hurt before I show vunerability, my first initial go to action with her is anger. I think a lot of people are ilke that. So to have to drum the fact that I felt unsupported by my husband.
Harold Perrineau: But we had such good support up until that point
Regina Hall: We had so much trust and love. Ya know I didn’t see the video we just shot it but I didn’t watch it so I didn’t know what he had seen. So that when it comes up there’s so much embarrassment to not know what everyone else has seen that you done. Was the door open? Was the door closed?
TheJasmineBRAND: How has the environment or climate changed in terms of working and being black in Hollywood; is it still an issue or is it much better since you first started to the fans being introduced in this film?
Harold Perrineau: That’s a big question. There’s progression in our country. I’m not going to negate any of the progression. It’s still unfortunately an issue, it’s still unfortunate an issue that this film this great film with all of these great actors can be categorized as a black film or urban film or any of that stuff, those things are still around. The fight still continues to make us all Americans, great actors, and all participants in this great country.
Regina Hall: You go into it knowing there is still challenged. Sometimes you makes strides and then It kind of get stalled a little bit. There’s steps and there’s periods it’s like okay, I thought by now if we kept the same level of progress that we had before, it’d be here but sometimes it stalls and then it starts back up. We’ve been blessed because we’ve been able to continue despite it. There’s so much other talent that is out there and would love to be seen but we march on and
Harold Perrineau: We still press forward.
