[EXCLUSIVE] Evander Holyfield Lawyers Up! Fights With Auction House Over Memorabilia
Then according to newly filed court docs, the two parties went to arbitration where Holyfield won against the auction house. The arbitrator sided with the boxing champ in December 2013 stating Julien’s had no right to list the items Holyfield told them were not for sale. The order stated the original agreement was unenforceable and void.
Holyfield is now demanding that he be paid the $250K bond back, which is still sitting in a account that he cannot touch without a court order. Further, he is demanding that Julien’s return the items that the order stated they couldn’t sell, but are still in their possession. The auction house and Holyfield have been battling over who is to pay for the items to be shipped from Los Angeles to Georgia and the boxer wants the court to order Julien’s to cover the costs.
Julien’s filed docs stating that they informed Holyfield they needed the times he refused to sell out of their storage due to them needing the space for other auction items.
They then state that,
Because of Holyfield’s irresponsible and bad conduct, Julien’s incurred a loss of tens of thousands of dollars from the auction, when it should have made hundreds of thousands of dollars. What should have brought in millions in auction proceeds resulted in less than $600,000 in total sales, as a result of the withdrawal of the Disputed Items. As a result of Holyfield’s actions, Julien’s entire business suffered a significant loss and a blow to its reputation, from which it is still attempting to recover.
They want his request to pay for the shipping and attorney fees denied. Read the Exclusive Court Documents Part 1 Part 2 and Part 3.
