Officer Who Fatally Shot Mike Brown Resigns: I will not let someone else get hurt because of me.
As previously reported, there are conflicting reports as to what took place between Wilson and Brown on that fateful day. Some witnesses have said Brown had his hands up when Wilson shot him. Wilson paints a different story. He told a grand jury that he feared for his life when Brown hit him and reached for his gun.
Last week, a grand jury announced that it wouldn’t indict Wilson. The announcement ignited violent protests. Several other large but peaceful protests have since been held across the country.
In his first public interview with ABC News, Wilson said that he believed he did nothing wrong during the tragic encounter with Brown:
The reason I have a clean conscience is ’cause I know I did my job right.
However, Wilson did share that remorseful about the outcome of the altercation.
I think those are grieving parents who are mourning the loss of their son. Nothing you could say, but, again, you know, I’m sorry that their son lost his life. It wasn’t the intention of that day. It’s what occurred that day. And there’s no … nothing you could say that’s gonna make a parent feel better.
Brown’s parents have yet to comment about Wilson’s resignation. [Associated Press]
