‘My wife may not be black, but she’s mine’. Derek Luke Reacts to Criticism About Wife’s Nationality
He adds:
Who one chooses to date is that persons business.
Instead of focusing on (Happiness) & (pure Love) for some reason some folks are still focused on (Color). Doesn’t make any sense to me. But I guess that’s the ignorance of OTHERS.My wife may not be Black but she is mine. And she’s mine with a heart of gold.
People are so quick to judge but can’t even distinguish the difference of another’s race.
Sophia Luke is Hispanic. She’s not white, she’s not black, she’s not Chinese, she’s Hispanic.
And she’s mine!!
P.S. Are you offended or unbothered that Derek is married to a woman that isn’t black?

Im just concerned that many of our black men choose non black women.Men from other races tend to marry and partner with their own.Whats funny to me is that hes suprised. With all the racial turmoil thats going on we have a problem concerning race in America.Hell, black women should start dating more outside our race.Stop being loyal to them. They aint loyal!!!
Hey Ann. While I understand your point of view, I think there is a lot more too it. Black women do date outside of the race and there are a number of black women who prefer not to date and are not attracted to black men. These women don’t receive the extent of flack for their preference, unlike what men of color get, and that isn’t necessarily fair. I’m fully aware that there are famous and popular black men who date outside their race for the sole purpose of it signifying that they “made it”, which is nothing but pure ignorance and a low form of consciousness on their end, BUT regardless, that shouldn’t be of anyone’s concern and that doesn’t represent the views of all famous black men. Derek Luke has been married to his wife, as stated in the article, for 17 years… that sounds like genuine love to me. He does not deserve the criticism and backlash he’s getting regardless of what’s currently going on in the world. Black people are channeling their anger and frustration in the wrong direction and at the wrong people. No one, including people of certain statuses, should have to defend their relationship preferences in today’s world. Everyone is entitled to be with whom they choose regardless of the opinions of outsiders. For us as black people, particularly us black women, to have a problem with bi-racial relationships when black women aren’t the ones in the relationship, is sheer ignorance and insecurity on our part, which I’m aware does stem from certain frustrations, but that is something that needs to be risen up against. I’m all down with certain views that might be considered radical or revolutionary, but discriminatory views on relationships and in general are a complete no and need to die on our end. It is hypocritical and and doesn’t make us any better than the real racists and discriminatory people out there. There are more important things to worry about. Our society loves to scrutinize other people’s lives, instead of focusing on making real and necessary changes in the world.
And for the record, there are still a lot of black men out there who value having a relationship with black women.
Blessings!
Tashia, AMEN. Very well said.
