‘The Soul Man’ Picked Up for a Final Season
The Soul Man, a TV Land original, starring Cedric the Entertainer, Niecy Nash, Wesley Jonathan and guest star, Sherri Shepherd has been renewed for their fifth and final season. The show became a huge success as a spinoff of another TV Land original series, Hot in Cleveland (which ended June 2015), and became the networks highest-rated original series amongst African Americans, averaging a 2.2 rating among adults in the demo. (Sidebar Boyce Ballentine’s character originated on an episode of Hot in Cleveland.)
The show premiered June 20, 2012 with a 12-episode order.The premise of the show is a sitcom revolving around Reverend Boyce “The Voice” Ballentine (Cedric the Entertainer), a former R&B super-star, adjusting to his new role as presiding pastor of his father’s church. Niecy Nash stars as Lolli, the reverend’s wife.
According to Deadline, TV Land’s EVP of Development and Original Programming, Keith Cox, shared his views on the show’s 12-episode final season:
