Derek Fisher Fired by Knicks, Matt Barnes (Sorta) Responds
Not so good news for Derek Fisher. He has been fired by the New York Knicks after a 23-31 start to his second season, according to ESPN. The site reports:
New York has lost nine of 10 games and five in a row. The Knicks went 17-65 in Fisher’s first season. Assistant Kurt Rambis will serve as interim coach. Fisher was hired by team president Phil Jackson to turn around the struggling New York franchise. They have a history together when Jackson coached the Lakers, and Fisher was a point guard on the team that won five championships. The Knicks haven’t won a title since the 1972-73 season. They sit 12th in the Eastern Conference this season. Fisher, who had no previous head coaching experience, took over for Mike Woodson, who went 109-79 in parts of three seasons in New York. Woodson won only one playoff series, however.
Last year, Fisher was involved in an altercation with NBA player Matt Barnes.
We hear his termination has nothing to do with the incident.
Update #2:
Fisher has yet to comment. Barnes posted the Instagram photo below, with no caption. Many believe he’s throwing silent shade at Fisher.
