(UPDATE) Bobbi Kristina’s Death Was Caused By Drugs & Water, Bobby Brown Reacts
Bobbi Kristina Brown’s face being immersed in water, along with drug intoxication, led to her death last year, a medical examiner said in a statement released Friday morning.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office in Atlanta said the official cause of her death was pneumonia caused by the way she was found and the drugs in her system, the Associated Press reports. She reportedly had morphine, cocaine, pot and prescription drugs in her body.
As previously reported, the 22-year-old daughter of the late singer Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown was found face-down and unresponsive in a bathtub in her suburban Atlanta townhome Jan. 31, 2015. She later died, on July 26th, in hospice care.
The medical examiner’s office said it reviewed medical records, investigative files and other documents to determine how she likely died. The medical examiner’s office stated that marijuana and alcohol were involved in the death. They shared in a statement,
The underlying cause of death is the condition which starts the downhill course of events leading to death and in this case is the immersion associated with drug intoxication.
It wasn’t possible to determine whether her death was accidental or intentional, the medical examiner’s office said.
Death was clearly not due to natural causes, but the medical examiner has not been able to determine whether death was due to intentional or accidental causes, and has therefore classified the manner of death as Undetermined.
A judge on Thursday had granted a request filed by media organizations to unseal the autopsy. Brown’s death was similar to the way her mother died.
Whitney’s body was found face-down in a foot of water in her bathtub at the Beverly Hilton Hotel just before the 2012 Grammy Awards. Authorities found prescription drugs in the suite and evidence of heart disease and cocaine in Houston’s body but determined her death was an accidental drowning. [Associated Press]
Update #2. Christopher Brown of Brown & Rosen LLC said in a statement:
Yesterday we were informed that two news affiliates were granted access to the autopsy of Bobbi Kristina Brown. While this action is unsettling, we will continue in our efforts in the civil lawsuit and the criminal investigation. Bobby Brown has had to be strong and mourn his loved ones in a fashion that is foreign to most people. So public, so raw, with apparently no end in sight. Hopefully public indictments and prosecution will lead to private healing and closure for Bobby Brown and his family.
