(EXCLUSIVE) Brian McKnight Mansion Hit With Tax Levy
theJasmineBRAND.com exclusively reports, Brian McKnight is one step closer to having his Los Angeles mansion seized by Uncle Sam, with a federal court judge siding with the Feds by ordering they can go after the singer’s home to collect on 340k+ in back taxes.
Earlier this year, the federal government filed suit against McKnight accusing him of owing them over 340k in back taxes and refusing to pay up despite their demands for the cash.
The government pleaded for the judge’s approval to file a lien in the amount of $340,160.50 against the singer’s home in Chatsworth. CA. The petition stated that the IRS has been attempting to collect on unpaid taxes from McKnight for the years 2008-2012.
The Feds explained that McKnight defaulted on a payment plan he entered into with them and therefore, they now want to place the lien against his property. During their collection process they were able to collect $228,500 in other unpaid taxes by placing levies against his other accounts and assets, but he still owed them the $340k.
McKnight never responded to Uncle Sam’s lawsuit in court.
Then on March 17th, the federal court judge came back and sided with the IRS. The order states that McKnight’s home is not exempt from the tax levy and the government is allowed to place the lien against the mansion.
The decision is bad news for the singer because the IRS can now start the proceeding to have the home sold off to pay back the debt he owes them, which would result in McKnight losing his home.
